I keep the platform clean and the audits boring.
Twenty-two years in one health system's IT organization, in four seats: the service desk, the Remedy console, the ServiceNow platform, and security. Looking for the fifth.
Healthcare IT teaches the expensive lessons early.
I started on a hospital service desk, which is the fastest way to learn what a broken system actually costs somebody. From there I administered BMC Remedy, pushed hard to replace it, and was there for the migration off BMC Remedy onto ServiceNow in 2012. I spent the next decade building and maintaining that platform.
In 2022 I moved to the security side of the house: security incident response, vulnerability response, and GRC, where the platform stops being a ticketing tool and becomes the place risk actually gets managed. It turns out that knowing where every CI came from is a real advantage when you are trying to figure out what a finding is actually attached to.
That chapter closed in July 2026, after twenty-two years. I read the release notes, I ask why a control exists before I automate it, and I would rather ship one clean thing than five that need babysitting. I am looking for the next place to do that.
Platform administration
Instance hygiene, upgrades and clones, ACLs, flows, integrations, and the unglamorous config discipline that keeps an instance upgradeable.
Vulnerability management
Scanner findings into ServiceNow VR, deduped against real CIs, prioritized by actual exposure, and routed to the team that can fix them.
Governance, risk, compliance
Turning control frameworks into evidence that collects itself, so audit season is a report run instead of a fire drill.
Twenty-two years, one health system, four seats.
ServiceNow Developer I
- Moved from the platform team into the security organization, taking a decade of ServiceNow expertise with me.
- Supported Security Incident Response, Security Requests, Vulnerability Response, and Risk Management, then the later rollout of Integrated Risk Management (IRM).
- Worked Qualys scanner findings through ServiceNow Vulnerability Response.
- Built the catalog items and service request forms the GRC team ran on.
ServiceNow Developer I
- Started with the January 2012 ServiceNow go-live and stayed with the platform for the next ten years as it grew from ITSM into the organization's system of record.
- Custom application support, platform administration and maintenance, and hands-on work through platform upgrades.
- Code review for citizen developers, update set management, and release work in an Agile SDLC.
Remedy Administrator
- Administered BMC Remedy incident management for a multi-hospital health system.
- Watched a convoluted form slow the service desk down every day, and became one of the loudest voices for replacing it with ServiceNow.
Service Desk Analyst
- Frontline support for clinical and business users. The seat that taught me what downtime costs the people using the system.
